We had been been talking about a road trip down the California coast for years, and this year we decided to stop talking and start planning for real. So, this summer, we flew to San Francisco, spent a couple of days in the city and in Napa, rented a red Mustang convertible (because why not?), and drove down the Pacific Coast Highway to our final destination, L.A. This was definitely in the top 10 of vacations for me. I loved every minute of it! Other things kept getting in the way of me processing and posting the photos from this trip, and people are starting to tell me they don’t believe we ever went. The next few posts will be proof that we did, indeed, spend a bunch of days driving around in CA, and I hope they convey what a fantastic destination it was.
The following photos are from our first morning in San Francisco. It was July 4 – evening photos to come in the next post.

China Town
I know, touristy restaurant, but…mmmm…garlic…
Coit Tower – taken from around the grounds, in the tower base, and from the top of the tower.
Lombard Street – you can’t even imagine the amount of cars waiting to drive on this street. We were perfectly happy walking it and riding a cable car down the other side. Unbelievably, I totally failed to get a picture of a cable car! That’s my excuse to return someday.
Some shots of the city – such a beautiful city but crazy trying to walk it with all these hills.
